Empowering

Women & Children

Despite Herculean efforts of women “to rise" as poetically described by Maya Angelou, women continue to suffer from social, political, religious, and economic subordination and deprivation. Their suffering crosses many intersections between culture, ethnicity, region, and religion resulting in a massive swath of suffering. All too often, the voices of these communities of women and their allies are suppressed and silenced such as those who protested after the murder of Mahsa Amini by the Iranian morality police. Women are still being denied basic human rights both in the U.S. and abroad. It is their struggles we hope to support, their voices we hope to broadcast. Like women, we are also interested in supporting children who are often even more disenfranchised given their lack of voice and agency.

  • They are a global human rights organization made up of lawyers and advocates who ensure reproductive rights are protected in law as fundamental human rights for the dignity, equality, health, and well-being of every person.

  • As staunch believers in a women’s right to choose, we really admire the unwavering passion and commitment that this team has to protect this right here in the United States, and their work to support women’s reproductive health around the world. While this work requires advocates and providers of all kinds, we believe that the work happening in courtrooms across the country is vital to protecting, and expanding, these rights long-term.

  • Dollar For is a national nonprofit that crushes medical bills by helping patients access charity care. They empower patients and advocate on their behalf.

  • We believe no one should have to worry about finances when accessing healthcare, especially when it matters most for them or their families—yet we know this can be a major source of stress. That’s why we are excited to support Dollar For, an innovative organization tackling the critical issue of medical debt.  Dollar For is unlocking profound opportunities by helping people more effectively access existing government funds, ensuring that programs like Charity Care—established under ObamaCare—are better known and utilized. Their work is making a significant impact by increasing access to vital financial support, helping those in need navigate and reduce their medical debt burdens.

  • SHE-CAN identifies high-achieving young women in Cambodia, Liberia, and Guatemala and supports them on their path to leadership.

After a rigorous recruitment process, scholars are matched with a team of dedicated mentors and apply to college in the U.S. SHE-CAN scholars win full-ride scholarships to top colleges, and while in the U.S., they participate in leadership training and exclusive internship opportunities. After graduation, SHE-CAN scholars return home ready to leapfrog into positions of power and empower other women. Since 2011, they’ve helped 119 women win over $32M in scholarships.

  • SHE-CAN bridges our commitment to supporting women around the world and our belief that education is key to thriving in life. Their model of surrounding young women with remarkable female role models during college provides essential guidance and support. Ultimately, they are equipping the next generation of female leaders to return home and drive transformative change in their communities and countries, creating a lasting global impact.

  • Essie Justice Group is a nonprofit organization of women with incarcerated loved ones taking on the rampant injustices created by mass incarceration. Their award-winning Healing to Advocacy Model brings women together to heal, build collective power, and drive social change. They are building a membership of fierce advocates for race and gender justice — including Black and Latinx women, formerly and currently incarcerated women, trans women, and gender expansive people.

  • We are proud to support Essie Justice Group, founded by the remarkable Gina Clayton-Johnson, which serves a population often overlooked in America: women with incarcerated loved ones. These women play a critical role, not only as a support system for their loved ones as they navigate the criminal justice system and reintegrate into the community, but also while continuing to work, care for their families, and manage their own lives. Essie has built a powerful network of sisterhood, where these women can uplift one another and find strength on this long journey, ensuring no one has to face it alone.

  • With poverty reduction as its goal, Legal Link strives to make the law transparent and accessible, while empowering communities to know and access legal protections. Using its unique Legal First Aid curriculum and web-based tools, it is working to shift where and how people access legal information.

  • We are excited to support Legal Link, an organization that provides critical assistance to individuals navigating the complex legal system. Founded with the belief that access to legal support should not be a barrier to justice, Legal Link helps people overcome legal obstacles that can affect housing, employment, and family stability. By connecting individuals with the resources and support they need, Legal Link is empowering communities to address legal challenges and build more secure, stable futures. Their work is vital in ensuring that justice is accessible to all, especially those most vulnerable.

  • They are a research and design lab for the social sector, working to transform child welfare. Led and guided by people who have been directly impacted by this system, they are a trusted partner across the national child welfare field. They work with government agencies, lawmakers, and providers, advocates, and foundations to drive novel, scalable solutions at the federal, state, and local levels.

  • When we think about what systems in America urgently require change, few are more broken than the foster system. We were moved by a piece published in the fall of 2021 by Think of US’ founder, Sixto Cancel, and his own experiences within the foster system and the incredibly innovative, data-driven solutions he and his team are proposing that will connect vulnerable young people with their families instead of introducing them to this broken system.
